On Life on Earth with ADHD
ADHD is hard to live with, whether you have it or you have to live with other people who have it.
But if you have it, you live in a world where people are either using you while you’re high functioning, or trying to erase you because you don’t fit into their bullshit when you’re not generating their good vibe content, and they suffer the consequences.
We’re taught in every conversation about it that we’re the problem, when we are not.
We are natural humans, with as much right to eat, shit, and breathe as anyone who can balance a check book. We have higher incidents of alcoholism, acting out, drug abuse, and behavioral disorders BECAUSE of the traumas we go through trying to “fit in or suffer the consequences.” It’s not like there aren’t case studies and case studies, therapist after therapist who have had to help people figure this out for years and years. I’m not just making this up.
We are made more dangerous to others by the institutions that are trying to make us fit into their molds, pretending we aren’t acceptable, instead of making room in society and culture for us to be awesome instead.
And that’s the thing. We are awesome when we learn how to balance our lives around our mental health issues, once we get the hang of it, find the right people to do it with, we make accommodations for our issues, and learn to harness the crazy little daimons to chariots they like to pull for a while, and we let them stop when they get distracted. We resolve the traumas and reclaim the ability to express that genetic predisposition through lenses that were not bent and broken by years of abuse; it stops being self-harm.
With hard-won wisdom, lots of therapy, and the right kinds of meds, I’ve learned to restructure my expectations, and found ways to achieve the targets, food, shelter, safety, sex, standing, spiritual attainment, and cosmic reunification with the divine source of all things WHILE being incarnated in a body genetically predisposed to ADHD.
It’s not easy, but it’s not harder than living life without ADHD, look at all the people who fail at what society says is a “good life” without mental health obstacles.
Don’t let people tell you you’re the problem, their society isn’t even built for them, and they’re giving us shit.
It’s hell for us, and we have managed to get through it, this far. A little fucking credit is fucking due, my sisters and brothers. And some basic human respect. The right to exist and have an equal valuation when we are determining how the world should work for people born here.
We were just born like this. It is not a handicap, it is a human genetic trait, that gets turned evil by bad parenting, mostly, and bad society, corrupt culture, selfish unenlightened pieces of garbage rechanneling our SPARK into their pleasure and profit.
We should never be the scapegoat for the evils of their “society” bearing fruit.
